Showtime has handed out a series order for “Shaka: King of the Zulu Nation” which has “Training Day” and “Southpaw” helmer Antoine Fuqua onboard to direct and executive produce.
Olu Odebunmi and Tolu Awosika are penning and executive producing the drama chronicling Shaka’s unlikely rise to power as he united multiple tribes across vast stretches of Africa and revolutionised warfare in the early 19th century, becoming one of history’s most seminal figures.
CBS Studios and Propagate will back the series about the African warrior hero while Fuqua, Howard T. Owens, Gregory Lipstone, and Spencer Medof will also executive produce. Odebunmi and Awosika recently collaborated with Fuqua on Amazon’s “The Terminal List” series starring Chris Pratt – that project recently began filming.
