Showtime has handed out a ten-episode series order for a present-day reimagining of the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced 1980 feature “American Gigolo”.
Jon Bernthal stars as Julian Kaye, who is introduced fifteen years after he has been arrested for murder and struggling to find his footing in the modern-day Los Angeles sex industry.
At the same time, he’s seeking the truth about the set-up that sent him to prison all those years ago and also hoping to reconnect with his one true love Michelle (Gretchen Mol). The original film starred Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton in the lead roles.
David Hollander (“Ray Donovan”), Paramount TV Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television are behind the project with Hollander writing and directing. Rosie O’Donnell, Lizzie Brochere, Gabriel LaBelle and Leland Orser also star while Wayne Brady is on board as a guest star.
