“Shining,” “Groove,” “Grinch” Return To Cinemas

Disney, Warner Bros Pictures, Universal Pictures

A trio of films are set to return to cinemas for their anniversaries.

First up, Stanley Kubrick’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Shining” will be coming exclusively to IMAX screens on December 12th – celebrating the film’s 45th anniversary. Tickets are not yet on sale.

The film is being squeezed onto screens in between IMAX runs for “Wicked: For Good” in late November and “Avatar: Fire and Ash” on December 19th.

Next, Disney’s 2000 animated comedy “The Emperor’s New Groove” is getting a new 4K disc release on December 9th. To celebrate it, a special theatrical run of the film will take place at Los Angeles’ El Capitan Theatre from November 21st-23rd.

David Spade starred in the film as Emperor Kuzco, an emperor who is transformed into a llama by his ex-advisor, and must navigate how to return to his body while learning about himself. John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Warburton, and Wendie Malick co-starred.

Though not a hit at release, the film was huge on home video and was 2001’s best-selling home video release. It has since become both a cult favorite for some fans, and famed for its complicated and troubled production as seen in the doco “The Sweatbox”.

Finally, the 2000 live-action film adaptation of Dr Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is set to return to cinemas on December 12th for its 25th anniversary. Tickets for those showings are available now.

Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, Taylor Momsen, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Molly Shannon co-starred in the film, which was a massive hit upon its release – pulling in almost $350 million at the global box office and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2000 domestically.
