Robbie Sheehan (“Misfits,” “Fortitude”) and Ronan Raftery (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”) have been announced as the first cast members of the Peter Jackson-produced “Mortal Engines” at Universal Pictures.
Christian Rivers is attached to direct while Jackson, his wife Fran Walsh and their regular writing collaborator Philippa Boyens are re-teaming in writing and producing capacities for this adaptation of the award-winning book series of the same name from British author Philip Reeve.
This first in a planned series of films is set in a world many thousands of years in the future. Earth’s cities now roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources.
On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands who will change the course of his life forever.
Sheehan will have a lead role, while Rafferty plays a supporting one. Production is scheduled to begin in New Zealand this spring ahead of a December 14th 2018 release.
