Warner Bros. Pictures has been airing a new TV spot for the upcoming sequel “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” – a short spot featuring a key scene previously not included in the trailers and which spoils the appearance of another DC Universe hero.
SPOILER FOR “SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS” AHEAD
First airing on TV and then subsequently shared as bootlegs on social media (no official copy exists at this time), the promo says the new film is “full of surprises” before abruptly showing Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Shazam (Zachary Levi) interacting.
The film’s director David F. Sandberg has now gone to Twitter to warn people: “Well there’s some big Shazam spoilers out there now. If you want to go in fresh maybe don’t be online or watch tv with ads… Pretty good advice in general actually.”
When a response suggested Sandberg wasn’t happy, he responded: “I’m happy if it convinces people to see the movie. But it’s of course less ideal for people who were going to see it anyway if they happen to see spoilers.”
The inclusion is Gadot’s first DCEU appearance since 2020’s poorly received “Wonder Woman 1984,” though 2021 saw more of her work in the role unearthed for the HBO Max release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”.
Whilst Patty Jenkins won’t be back to direct a third “Wonder Woman” film, it’s speculated Gadot could be a part of the new DC cinematic universe.
Gunn certainly has plans for the character even though she doesn’t technically have her own film or show in the DCU announced as yet beyond the prequel spin-off “Paradise Island”. One fan said to Gunn on Twitter that “Wonder Woman” was a rich enough character she deserves her own animated series to which Gunn said: “Agreed. Working on it”.
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” opens in cinemas on March 17th 2023.
