This coming Friday sees the arrival of “The Flash” film, a movie both swirled in controversy over its leading man and confusion over the reactions.
Early word out of CinemaCon was gushing, but more mainstream critical reviews since have painted a more mixed picture towards the film – albeit mostly positive on the whole.
Now one of the film’s actors, Michael Shannon, spoke candidly about his part – reprising his “Man of Steel” role of General Zod from ten years ago in this film, which explores an altered timeline.
Speaking with Collider, Shannon says the experience of filming “The Flash” was decidedly less engaging for him than Zack Snyder’s Superman movie was:
“I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!’
It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt Man of Steel was. Whether people think that’s crazy or not, I don’t even care. I really felt like Man of Steel was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like The Flash is too, but it’s not Zod’s story. I’m basically there to present a challenge.”
Shannon does praise star Ezra Miller though, dubbing the actor’s performance as “fascinating” and says: “I don’t wanna give anything away, but what Ezra has to do in this movie is pretty crazy, and I think [they’re] up for the task.”
“The Flash” hits cinemas on June 16th.
