Actors Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain are set to team with “The Proposition” and “The Road” director John Hillcoat on a six-episode limited series about the tempestuous marriage between country music icons George Jones and Tammy Wynette.
Titled “George & Tammy,” the project is based on the book “The Three of Us” by the couple’s daughter Georgette Jones. Jones was just four when her parents split, the marriage’s dissolution taking a great toll on the couple and the daughter.
Abe Sylvia (“Dead to Me”) created the series and executive produces alongside Chastain, Bryan Goluboff, Andrew Lazar, Josh Brolin, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari. Sylvia and Goluboff will pen the series.
Filming begins Wednesday in North Carolina with Shannon and Chastain, who previously worked together on Jeff Nichols’ “Take Shelter,” reportedly doing their own singing. “George & Tammy” will premiere exclusively on Spectrum followed by a second window on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network.
