“Shang-Chi” Targets Late July Filming Restart

Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is reportedly looking to restart filming later this month at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.

The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film began shooting back in February and was one of the first to hit the pause button back in March following Cretton himself self isolating after consulting a doctor and being tested for COVID-19. His test came back negative, but production went on hold with everything else.

Australia has managed to get through the pandemic in better shape than much of the rest of the world even with a ‘second wave’ currently sweeping through the state of Victoria due mostly to a handful of large family get-togethers spreading it. The state of New South Wales, where the project is shooting, has seen barely any cases in the past few weeks beyond returning travelers who are in hotel quarantine.

Cast and crew who travel to Australia will be quarantined upon arrival per the country’s guidance. One exception is the film’s star himself Simu Lu who, going by his social media channels, has remained here in Sydney the entire time of the pandemic and has dubbed himself a “temporary Australian”.

Awkwafina and Tony Leung co-star in the film which is expected to kick off next summer’s box office on May 7th 2021.
