Following rumors last week that something is happening with Marvel’s “Shang-Chi” franchise, the first film’s star Simu Liu has himself teased Shang-Chi’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and possibly sooner than you think.
At last report Liu is set to reprise the role of Shang-Chi in the film’s sequel, with Destin Daniel Cretton directing again. However Cretton’s commitments to direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” seems to have led to questions over when the ‘Ten Rings’ follow-up might go into production.
In an interview with People, Liu indicated there could shortly be another Marvel project that will feature his character interacting with other major superheroes. Talking about being part of the MCU, he says:
“I’m such a big fan of both the characters and the performers that play them, so any collaboration is an opportunity for me to work alongside someone who, in their own way, is breaking barriers and at the very top of their game. I think that’s what excites me the most as a performer, [and] also as a fan… who knows, they [the fans] might see something sooner than you think. We’ll see.”
That’s different to fellow MCU project “Captain America: New World Order” which producer Nate Moore says has set its production schedule with filming to begin in 3 weeks. Liu will also be seen this July in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film.
