Actress Lea Seydoux took on the role of Dr. Madeleine Swann across Daniel Craig’s final two James Bond outings with “Spectre” and “No Time to Die”.
She’s also currently at the Telluride Film Festival where Deadline slipped in a fun response when asked whether audiences will ever see more of her in the long-running film franchise. She replied (SPOILERS AHEAD):
“After all I’m not dead. It was James who died, not Madeleine. So, who knows? Maybe I’ll be back. This is like fake news, right? But if we’re serious for a moment, Madeleine drives away with her daughter right at the end because James has saved them. There’ll be a new Bond because Daniel’s Bond died but who’s to say that Madeleine won’t be back?”
It’s expected the franchise will undergo a whole reboot in the wake of Craig’s entrance, much in the same way it did with his entrance. As such, neither Seydoux nor any of the other supporting actors like Ben Whishaw’s Q, Ralph Fiennes’ M or Naomie Harris’ Moneypenny are likely to return – even if some of the characters come back in another form.
So it’s all up to producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to decide whom will next take over the role, and Seydoux adds:
“I haven’t spoken to Barbara about whether or not Madeleine would make an appearance in a future Bond film, a lot has to happen before that stage is reached. This is just idle speculation as we talk on the top of a mountain”
Seydoux is currently in the midst of shooting Bertrand Bonello’s “The Beast,” an adaptation of Henry James’s 1903 novella “The Beast in the Jungle,” alongside George MacKay in Paris. She reveals she plays the same character in three different time periods – 1900, 2014 and 2044.
