The first set photos have been posted by The Daily Mail from Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Snow White”. The shots show off a stand-in for Rachel Zegler as the eponymous character in her signature outfit as she walks through a field.

Behind her are her famous seven companions who won’t be dwarfs but rather fantastical beings in this take on the famed 1937 animated film. Each is dressed in distinct clothing whilst cheering and marching.

To date only one of the casting of these beings has been announced – “Pirates of the Caribbean” alum Martin Klebba who stars as Grumpy. The film also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan.

The photos became a source of controversy when a Disney spokesperson told The Daily Beast yesterday they were fake. Subsequently, The Daily Mail reported they were real with confirmed stand-ins used for both Rachel Zegler and Andrew Burnap in the images.

In a statement to The Independent, a Disney spokesperson clarified the confusion saying: “The images that ran [in the Daily Mail] are not official film photos. These show stand-ins for some talent and do not feature Rachel Zegler or Andrew Burnap.”

The original “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is considered Disney’s first major successful animated feature and kicked off the studio’s line-up of fairytale animated features.

Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. “La La Land” and “The Greatest Showman” pair Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are attached to write new songs.

Other Disney cartoons turned live-action features on the way include “Moana,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Hercules” and “Bambi”.
