HBO Max and Annapurna Television have set a May 5th premiere date for its new eight-episode true-crime drama miniseries “The Staircase” starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette.
The story follows Kathleen Peterson, who in 2001 was reported dead by her husband Michael after having fallen down the stairs of their home.
Michael was soon charged with her murder, leading to a court case that drew headlines and revealed secrets about the couple’s relationship. Netflix released a docuseries of the same name about the case back in 2018.
Michael Stuhlbarg, Juliette Binoche, Dane DeHaan, Olivia DeJonge, Rosemarie DeWitt, Tim Guinee, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sophie Turner, Vincent Vermignon, Odessa Young and Parker Posey also star in this scripted drama
Antonio Campos created the series and directs six of its episodes (Leigh Janiak helmed the other two). Campos executive produces with Maggie Cohn and the series launches with three episodes followed by weekly releases through June 9th.
