Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for its Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser-led prison drama “Black Bird”.
Inspired by actual events, the story begins when high school football hero, decorated policeman’s son, and convicted drug dealer Jimmy Keene (Taron Egerton) is sentenced to ten years in a minimum-security prison.
He is quickly given the choice – stay where he is and serve his full sentence with no possibility of parole; or enter a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane, befriend suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser), and elicit a confession to find out where he’s buried several young girls – all before Hall’s appeal goes through. If Jimmy succeeds in his new role as an informant, he will be released early. Will the suspected killer tell the truth? Or is this serial liar just spouting tall tales?
The project was developed by Dennis Lehane (“Mystic River,” “Shutter Island”) and adapts the true-crime memoir “In With The Devil” by authors James Keene and Hillel Levin.
Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear, and the late Ray Liotta co-star in the series which will release its first two episodes on July 8th on Apple TV+ with the remaining four to roll out weekly.
