SEGA will host ‘Sonic Central,’ a virtual live stream on Thursday for a 30th anniversary celebration of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise and a reveal of what’s next.
The big reveal may have already leaked however as French retail site SoGamely (via VGC) earlier had a listing for a PS4 title called “Sonic Collection EU version”.
That gels with a report earlier this year that SEGA was planning a new collection with Retro Engine remakes of the first two “Sonic” games and others in the franchise “that have never seen a re-release before”. 2010’s “Sonic Colors” is rumored to be one of those.
If true, the collection would join the “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” movie coming in April 2022, a new Netflix 3D animated series called “Sonic Prime” currently in the works, and a possible music concert as part of the 30th anniversary plans.
Over 1.14 billion “Sonic” game units have been sold and downloaded since the series debuted in 1991. The digital event will take place on the official “Sonic the Hedgehog” YouTube and Twitch channels on May 27 at 9am US-PT.
