Roadside Attractions has premiered the second trailer for Reinaldo Marcus Green’s redemption-themed biographical drama “Joe Bell”.
The true story tale follows the titular Oregonian father (Mark Wahlberg) who pays tribute to his teenage son Jadin in the wake of the boy’s suicide following the torment he received at school for being gay.
Joe embarks on a self-reflective walk across America to speak his heart to heartland citizens about the real and terrifying costs of bullying. Along the way he imagines his son accompanying him throughout the journey.
Connie Britton, Reid Miller, Maxwell Jenkins and Gary Sinise co-star in the film. The project received mixed reviews in Toronto last year aside from praise for Miller in the role of the son, though it has since reportedly undergone a major overhaul in the editing room.
Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry (“Brokeback Mountain”) penned the script while Wahlberg, Cary Fukunaga, and Jake Gyllenhaal among others produced the film which is scheduled to debut in cinemas on Friday, July 23rd.
