We already know “Scream VI” is set for a franchise-high opening at the box office this weekend, but Thursday night previews suggest it’s still going to beat expectations.
The Paramount and Spyglass Media slasher movie made $5.7 million at the domestic box office in Thursday night previews, well above the $3.5 million its immediate predecessor did last year.
That predecessor managed a very solid $30 million opening weekend, which was slightly below the franchise’s highest opening weekend with $34 million.
At the start of this week, “Scream VI” was projected to score $35-40 million for its three-day opening weekend domestic debut. Those estimates have now been slightly raised to around $42 million.
That puts it easily ahead of last week’s champ “Creed III” which looks set to drop around 57% to a haul of around $25 million which will put the film in line to cross the $100 million mark a little over ten days after its debut – well ahead of the 38 days and 24 days respectively the first two films took to reach that mark.
Coming in third will be the Adam Driver-led sci-fi dinosaur tale “65” which is targeting a $10 million three-day haul in its debut. Reviews for the title have been dire with the film pulling in just 33% (4.6/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Cocaine Bear” will round out the top five with $7 million and $6.2 million respectively.
