“Scream” Targeting Franchise’s Best Opening

Scream Targeting Franchises Best Opening
Paramount PIctures

With “Morbius” delayed months and “The 355” set to bomb this weekend with a $4.3 million third-place opening, the only real major new theatrical release in January is the fifth “Scream” which looks set to clean up.

Despite the omicron variant surge and some markets locking down, Paramount Pictures is still pushing forward with a release and with good reason it seems.

Early projections are the film will score a domestic opening weekend of $35-40 million for the four-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

The highest opening prior to this was “Scream 3” which debuted to $34.7 million back in 2000 on a standard Friday-Sunday.

Helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (“Ready or Not”), word of mouth from early screenings the other day is very good – painting the film as the best since the first two.

“Scream” is set to debut on January 14th.
