“Scream” Creator Says “Pay Neve Campbell”

Paramount Pictures

Actress Neve Campbell famously sat out this year’s “Scream VI” due to a salary dispute after failed contract negotiations saw her opting not to return.

The actress, who played the lead character of Sidney Prescott in the first four films and then a supporting character in the fifth film legacy sequel, doesn’t appear in the film at all – though is briefly referenced.

In June 2022 , she issued a statement saying she worked extremely hard to establish her value and she: “felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. In my soul, I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t walk on set feeling that – feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that.”

Recently series creator Kevin Williamson has finally spoken about that, telling the Happy Horror Time podcast when the next one roles around they should pay up:

“One day, they’ll figure that all out. I know her well. I love and adore her, and that’s what she did and it’s great for her. I love everyone involved with Scream and all I can say is pay her the money. Yes, you heard it, everyone. That’s what I would do. I would give her that.”

“Scream VI” bowed in March and broke franchise records, pulling in $168 million at the global box office and essentially confirming a seventh entry is on the way. Williamson co-wrote the script with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and also executive produced.
