Scott Wants To Re-Evolve “Alien” Franchise

Filmmaker Ridley Scott has revealed that he is still very interested in doing more with the “Alien” franchise following his return to it with 2012’s “Prometheus” and 2017’s “Alien Covenant” which serve as prequels to the original 1979 classic.

Neither of the new films was well received by fans, though have their supporters, and the box-office for ‘Covenant’ was a disappointment. Both films were released before Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox which seemed to put the “Alien” franchise on ice.

Speaking with The Los Angeles Times this week, Scott says that he believes there is a “lot of mileage” still in the franchise, but right now it needs to “re-evolve”:

“What I always thought when I was making it, the first one, why would a creature like this be made and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs. What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That’s the thing to question – who, why and for what purpose in the next idea, I think.”

Scott has previously expressed a desire to do at least one more “Alien” prequel film – one that would properly bridge the gap between the films, but this makes it sound like he’s retooled his original ideas for it a bit.
