Universal Pictures

Netflix has ordered an anime series based on the “Scott Pilgrim” comic property. In addition, the entire key cast of Edgar Wright’s cult 2010 live-action film adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” is returning for it.

Bryan Lee O’Malley created the comic which was published across six volumes from 2004 to 2010 and focused on Scott Pilgrim, a slacker and member of the garage band Sex Bob-omb.

In 2010 came “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead” filmmaker Edgar Wright’s adaptation which was acclaimed by critics but failed at the box-office. In the years since it has become a cult hit.

For the anime series Michael Cera will return to the role of Scott Pilgrim, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will reprise her role as Ramona Flowers.

Also back are Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Satya Bhabha, Mark Webber, Mae Whitman and Ellen Wong.

O’Malley will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer along with writer BenDavid Grabinski. Wright is also an executive producer.

Wright says in a statement: “Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski, have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also … well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”

Anime house Science SARU is providing animation with Abel Góngora directing. Anamanaguchi will create original songs for the film and will handle the score alongside Joseph Trapanese.
