It has now been confirmed by the Cannes Film Festival organisers this morning that Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of The Flower Moon” film will get its world premiere on the Croisette on Saturday, May 20th, at the Grand Theatre Lumiere.
The pic will play in Official Selection, but it’s not clear yet whether it will play in Competition – that will be revealed at the festival’s press conference in mid-April.
The film’s director Scorsese and actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal are all expected to show up at the premiere.
Based on David Grann’s best-selling book and written for the screen by Eric Roth and Scorsese, the story unfolds in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation – a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the ‘Reign of Terror’.
Paramount has announced plans to give the film a theatrical release in France from October 18th – and as a result the film will be subject to the country’s strict windowing rules, which requires a 17-month window between a film’s theatrical launch and its streaming release.
The film will open in the U.S. in limited release on Friday October 6th followed by a wide release two weeks later on October 20th and then followed by a Apple TV+ global streaming launch. Ither movies expected to play at this year’s Cannes include Disney’s “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny and Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City”.”
