Scorsese’s “Flower Moon” Delay Unlikely

Apple Studios, Paramount Pictures

Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated epic western crime drama film “Killers of the Flower Moon” will reportedly not be delayed.

A new feature piece at THR examines the Fall film release schedule and how major tentpoles could be relocating to 2024 in coming weeks should the actor’s and writer’s strikes continue.

Theater owners are reportedly scrambling to figure out whether the major studios are going to rearrange their release schedules in what’s seen as a critical moment for cinemas which are still a long way from recovery due to the pandemic.

According to the trade, the film remains on track for its October 6th limited release followed by an October 20th wide release and “isn’t likely to shift” according to their sources.

The film already generated plenty of buzz around its world premiere at Cannes, whilst DiCaprio and Scorsese appeared at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April to tub-thump the film to exhibitors.

The films opening in November and December face bigger issues as minor reshoots or ADR work is off the table, so films may not be able to be finished.

The news comes as box-office revenue year-to-date is running 16% ahead of 2022 but is still down nearly 19% from 2019.
