Out promoting his “Killers of the Flower Moon” film ahead of its release this coming Friday, filmmaker Martin Scorsese has confirmed his planned adaptation of David Grann’s non-fiction book “The Wager” will be his next film.

Talking with The Sunday Times, Scorsese’s comments confirm the news first revealed by Grann himself back in August.

At the time he confirmed a year-old report that the ‘Flower Moon’ director, that film’s star Leonardo DiCaprio, and that film’s backer Apple Studios are all reuniting for the feature.

The story is set in the 1740s and begins when a patched-together boat with thirty emaciated men landed on the coast of Brazil. The men claim to be the survivors of a British ship that crashed onto an island in South America’s Patagonia region. Their tales of surviving the seas and elements make them heroes.

Six months later, another and even more dilapidated vessel is found off the coast of Chile. This ship, carrying three survivors, claims the other men were actually mutineers. As accusations fly, the British Admiralty set a special trial to uncover the truth of what exactly happened on the island.

The film seems to have taken precedence over other projects Scorsese has planned including the Jonah Hill-ed Jerry Garcia biopic, a DiCaprio-led Teddy Roosevelt biopic, an adaptation of Marilynne Robinson’s novel “Home”, and his previously teased Jesus film.
