Filmmaker Tony Cervone has indicated that a follow-up of some sort to last year’s animated “Scooby-Doo” prequel feature “Scoob!” is in development.
That original 2020 film was set for a proper theatrical release, but when the pandemic began it was also made available to own or rent digitally. As a result, it’s not clear how much of a success it was for Warners.
The studio however apparently sees the potential in expanding the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe. Speaking with Comic Book Movie, Cervone says:
“We are kicking the tires on a follow-up to Scoob!. It hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s something we’re all excited about. The whole creative team that made the first movie is still around and back and working on something new. It was neat to create this Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe, and it’s exciting to return to it.”
The first “Scoob” brought in characters from other cartoons like Blue Falcon, Captain Caveman and Dick Dastardly. Whatever’s coming next, expect it to also incorporate famous characters from other Hanna Barbera properties.
The project is separate from The CW’s “Scooby-Doo” holiday special featuring the Scooby-Doo cast – that one-off serving as a spoof of cast reunions ala “Friends” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
