“Scoob!” Hitting HBO Max, “Goonies” Goes 4K?

The feature-length animated origin feature “Scoob!,” which launched on premium VOD just over a month ago on May 15th, has been announced as coming to HBO Max exclusively next Friday June 26th.

The immediacy of the streaming premiere date – just 42 days after its premiere on PVOD – has caught people off guard and is a far cry from traditional home video industry windows.

Only one film has made the jump faster – Disney’s “Onward” which went from theatrical on March 6th to PVOD on March 20th to SVOD via Disney+ on April 3rd. That however was at the pandemic’s initial breakout.

Part of the push could also be to boost the HBO Max service which hasn’t been a home run like Warners had hoped in its initial launch. Nevertheless they are keeping busy, signing Salma Hayek and her production company Ventanarosa to a two-year first-look deal today.

Warner Bros. Pictures has also teased, via a set of videos on Instagram, some major September announcements for “The Goonies,” “Sherlock Holmes” and “Beetlejuice”. It’s not clear what the announcement is, though it’s likely that all three films will score 4K UHD releases (two of the three have already been announced).
