Scarlett Johansson To Lead “Just Cause” Series

Marvel, Warner Bros. Pictures

Former Marvel regular Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Amazon Prime’s limited series adaptation of John Katzenbach’s 1992 novel “Just Cause” which has received a straight-to-series order.

Not to be confused with the beloved video game series of the same name, this is actually a new adaptation of a book previously translated into the 1995 film. That movie starred Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Capshaw, Blair Underwood and Ed Harris.

Johansson herself actually starred in that film as the child of Connery and Capshaw’s characters. Here she’ll play Madison ‘Madi’ Cowart, a gender-swapped version of the lead character, journalist Matt Cowart, from the book.

In the story, Cowart receives a letter from a death row inmate who claims to be innocent. As the investigation unfolds, not only does the case against the inmate prove to be shaky, but other horrors are lurking in the background.

The project will mark Johansson’s first major television role with Christy Hall to write and executive produce.
