Award-winning “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time” filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie are reportedly shaking up their work arrangement for their new Netflix movie.
The feature is said to involve sports memorabilia, with Ben Affleck eyed to play a former athlete alongside Adam Sandler, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Above the Line reports that while the brothers co-wrote the script and will both be credited as producers, Josh Safdie will reportedly be directing the film on his own this time.
Josh made his feature debut in 2008 with “The Pleasure of Being Robbed,” directing that film solo. Their 2013 sports documentary “Lenny Cooke” saw the coming together to co-direct which they’ve done ever since – until now.
A big part of the reason is Benny Safdie’s an in demand actor, as seen in films like “Licorice Pizza,” “Pieces of a Woman,” the currently in release “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret” and the upcoming “Oppenheimer”.
With Benny involved with other projects, the pair reportedly made the decision that Josh would direct this next Sandler film on his own. Benny co-created, co-showruns also stars in the upcoming Showtime series “The Curse” alongside Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder.
