Ryan Reynolds has been cast in the title role in “Detective Pikachu,” the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the “Pokemon” franchise for Legendary Entertainment.
Reynolds will use motion capture tech to play the yellow creature, a “peculiar sort from the Pikachu set, a self-styled investigator who is good at finding things.” He’s joined by Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton in the film in which Smith’s character’s father is kidnapped – leading him to team up with Pikachu to help find him. Newton is a ‘sassy journalist who helps them on their quest’.
Rob Letterman is set to direct from a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.
