Ryan Reynolds Easing Up On Stunts?

Netflix

Unless you’re Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves, there comes an age when physical stunts in filmmaking have taken such a toll on one’s body that it’s time to step back and let the stuntmen do their job.

That seems to be the case for “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds. Even as recently as films this year, the 46-year-old actor was doing some stunt and fight work in cinemas – even as he has sustained some injuries from it.

This week though, in an interview to promote the film “Spirited” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Reynolds says he’s rethinking the idea of performing his own stunts in the future – especially with a fourth child on the way:

“I mean, we have three beautiful girls right now and a fourth one on the way. It’s really making me rethink stunts. You know, I’ve been doing action movies for twenty-five years. I’ve broken twelve bones. I just had a seventh surgery.

You know, kids, though, they beat you up. I oftentimes – like, it’s not an alarm clock that wakes me up. It’s, like, a knee to the jugular. And I just want to keep – I’m rethinking doing stunts now because I’m starting to realize I want to be able to still kind of be active with my kids and stuff.

Like, I love throwing them up in the air. Like, I can throw my daughter Betty, especially – I can throw her – she’s so little, I can throw her high in the air. And she loves it. The problem is, I can’t catch her anymore, so that’s the biggest issue I’m facing.”

Reynolds will soon be slipping back into the Deadpool mask for a third entry in that series alongside Hugh Jackman, another actor who has seen his fair share of injuries from stunt work in the past.

“Spirited” is releasing on Apple TV+ this Friday.
