Ryan Hurst Is Kratos In “God of War”

Netflix

It’s official, Ryan Hurst will play the lead role of Kratos in the upcoming live-action Amazon Prime Video series based on the “God of War” video game franchise.

Hurst is quite familiar with the franchise, the “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Walking Dead” actor previously voiced the Norse god Thor in the video game “God of War: Ragnarok”. Christopher Judge played Kratos in the games.

In the series, Kratos is Spartan by birth, and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War and lost his soul in exchange for being victorious in battle.

The series will be set many years later and follow the storyline of the Norse mythology-centered 2018 reboot game (and its sequel ‘Ragnarok’). In the series, father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye.

Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his ten-year-old son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human. Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner with Frederick E.O. Toye directing the first two episodes.

Hurst has built up plenty of acclaim for his work over the years, most notably for his role as Opie on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” and films like “Saving Private Ryan,” “Remember the Titans,” “We Were Soldiers” and shows like “Bates Motel” and “Outsiders”. The actor will be in Chris Nolan’s “The Odyssey” this Summer.
