Ryan Gosling In Talks For “Star Wars” Film

Warner Bros. Pictures

Three-time Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling looks to be joining the “Star Wars” universe for the first time.

The “Barbie” and “Blade Runner 2049” actor is reportedly in negotiations for the lead role in “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Free Guy” filmmaker Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars” feature project.

Levy has been developing the film project since 2022 with the help of writer Jonathan Tropper (“This is Where I Leave You,” “The Adam Project”). The pair have reportedly been working on the script for over a year.

Levy is also producing the feature via his 21 Laps banner, which also produces Netflix’s smash hit series “Stranger Things”. 21 Laps will work in collaboration with Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm.

There are no details regarding the “Star Wars” time period in which the Levy and Gosling project is set. Works in the franchise often jump between various time periods between the trio of trilogies, many of them in recent times set several years after the “Return of the Jedi” events.

The one thing that is confirmed story-wise is that this is meant to be a standalone film – one not connected to the Skywalker Saga. That doesn’t preclude cameo appearances from well-known characters, but they won’t be the focus.

Ryan Gosling being in “Star Wars” is said to be a pretty recent turn of events. Levy was lining up a boy band movie at Paramount reuniting Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but Gosling’s interest in this has suddenly shifted this forward.

As a result, this will likely be Levy’s next film and the next “Star Wars” movie to be produced. Shooting could begin as early as this Fall.
