Rhenzy Feliz, who played the lead role of Alex Wilder in Hulu and Marvel Television series “Runaways,” has joined the cast of “The Batman” spin-off series “The Penguin” on HBO Max.
In addition Michael Kelly (“House of Cards”), Shohreh Aghdashloo (“The Expanse”) and Deirdre O’Connell (“Outer Range”) have also been added to the supporting cast.
The eight-episode series is said to take place in the immediate aftermath of the events of “The Batman” with a still somewhat flooded Gotham City, and a power vacuum left by the death of Carmine Falcone (John Turturro).
Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oswald ‘The Penguin’ Cobblepot who engages in a turf war with Carmine’s daughter Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti).
Details on Feliz’s role are under wraps, beyond it being a regular character throughout the run and rumored to be a teenage driver whom the Penguin befriends. The casting comes ahead of the show’s filming which is set to begin this month in New York.
The role means Feliz has now held roles in both the Marvel and DC Universes, along with his other credits like being a key cast member in Disney’s “Encanto,” along with shows like “Teen Wolf” and “American Horror Stories” and films like “The Tender Bar”.
Lauren LeFranc serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on “The Penguin” while Farrell, Craig Zobel, Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark executive produce for Warner Bros. Television. It’s expected the series will premiere on HBO sometime in 2024 ahead of “The Batman II” releasing in cinemas in October 2025.
