43-year-old actor and comedian Roy Wood Jr. has reportedly emerged as one of the top contenders to replace the outgoing Trevor Noah as host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show”.

Noah, 38, announced his exit on Thursday’s episode after seven years in the job. A specific leave date has not been set, but the announcement reportedly caught everyone – including his staffers – by surprise.

Executives are now eyeing potential replacements with Wood Jr., who joined the show back in 2015 and has since become one of its leading correspondents, an obvious fit.

Wood Jr. is also suddenly in hot demand following a role he had in the Jon Hamm-led film “Confess, Fletch” released last month.

TMZ adds that the replacement process is still in its ‘infancy stage’ and so Wood Jr. has not been told he is a candidate just yet.
