Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Christopher Abbott, and Emma Laird have signed on to join Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried in the Apple TV+ anthology series “The Crowded Room”.
Akiva Goldsman will pen and executive produce the project exploring characters living with mental illness and the determination they must have to face life with their debilitating conditions.
The first season will be inspired by the 1981 Daniel Keyes biography “The Minds of Billy Milligan” about a 1970s Ohio man arrested for several rapes who was acquitted after his defense team claimed he had multiple personality disorder (now known as dissociative identity disorder) and was unaware of the crimes he was committing. Instead, he was sent to a psychiatric hospital for ten years.
Holland will take on the lead role of Danny Sullivan (a character who partially reflects Milligan) alongside Seyfried as his psychologist, Rossum as his mother, Lane as his best friend, Laird as a longtime friend, and Abbott as his attorney who is suffering from PTSD following time in Vietnam.
Apple Studios and New Regency are teaming up to produce with Kornel Mundruczo, Suzanne Heathcote, Alexandra Milchan, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer to executive produce alongside Holland and Goldsman. Mundruczo will direct.
