“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” star Felicity Jones has confirmed she will not be showing up in the second and final season of that film’s prequel series “Andor”.
Jones played leading character Jyn Erso alongside Gabriel Luna’s Cassian Andor in the first of the live-action “Star Wars” spin-off films in 2016.
The second season of “Andor” is currently in production in the United Kingdom, and we know the twelve-episode run will lead directly into the beginning of “Rogue One” as we meet him in a small alley on the Ring of Kafrene where a contact tells him about the Empire’s planet killer weapon.
Whilst Andor and Jyn don’t actually meet until “Rogue One,” that doesn’t bar her from making a cameo or other small appearance with other characters.
Appearing on Wednesday’s BBC The One Show (via The Direct) to promote the action thriller “Dead Shot,” Jones commented on her possible return saying: “I’m afraid to say I won’t be [in Andor], but I still have hope for Jyn Erso at some point to make a comeback. But no, sadly I won’t be.”
She adds she enjoyed her time with the franchise: “I mean, it was a massive, massive challenge, I was doing a lot of martial arts in preparation for it. I mean, it’s on such a huge scale – I was quite in awe of the whole thing honestly.”
Meanwhile, Empire is reporting that the final three episodes of “Andor” will take place across the three days immediately prior to the start of “Rogue One”.
The second season of “Andor” is expected to air in late 2024 on the Disney+ service.
