Beloved Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins has started Team Deakins, a podcast with his wife and collaborator James Deakins which was launched last week. In that time, they have already released six episodes.
James Deakins says once they started making the episodes, it just grew and they have a ton of ideas for episodes now in which they will be joined by people in different areas of the craft.
The episodes cover topics like location scouting, practical lighting, shot composition, lens choices and lighting techniques and their own history working in the field. They’ll also have special guests like actor George McKay and director John Crowley.
She says: “We find ourselves continually coming back to the collaborative nature of the film business and this makes us want to delve into all the areas of making a film. We also discovered that having a young cinematographer, Matt Wyman, join us in this really added to the podcast and its relevance.”
Deakins’ films include “Skyfall,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Sicario,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Prisoners” and many of the Coen brothers’ films including “Fargo,” “True Grit,” “Barton Fink,” “O Brother Where Art Thou” and more.
