“The Studio” star Seth Rogen is reviving “The Muppet Show” which hails from 20th Television and Disney Branded Television.
The series will reportedly return in 2026 as a one-off special both starring and executive produced by singer Sabrina Carpenter.
The hope is the special will serve as a backdoor pilot for a new season of the iconic series that debuted 1976 and has its 50th anniversary next year.
Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Albertina Rizzo, Alex Timbers, Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson will executive produce. Rizzo will also write and Timbers direct.
Longtime Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will perform most of the muppetry.
All five seasons of the original “The Muppet Show” are currently available to stream on the Disney+ service. The most recent serie was 2023’s “The Muppets Mayhem”.
