“Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez will lead a TV series adaptation of Pedro Almodovar’s famed 1988 black comedy “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” for the Apple TV+ service and Lionsgate Television.
Rodriguez will take on Carmen Maura’s role of Pepa in this classic farce about the romantic mishaps of voice actors who dub foreign films.
The series version, which Almodovar and Rodriguez will executive produce, will feature a mixture of English and Spanish. Molly Breeskin, Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell will also executive produce.
Noelle Valdivia (“Masters of Sex,” “Mozart in the Jungle”) is attached to pen the script and serve as showrunner. The series marks Almodovar’s first scripted TV effort.
