Netflix and Skydance have closed a deal for a reimagining of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s “Spy Kids” franchise.
Rodriguez will return to pen and direct the project which will introduce the world to a new family of spies, and marks his second family film for Netflix after 2020’s “We Can Be Heroes”.
Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alan Cumming, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Tony Shalhoub, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Emily Osment and Matt O’Leary all starred in the originals which collectively grossed more than $550 million worldwide.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Elizabeth Avellan and Racer Max will produce with franchise owners Spyglass Media also behind the project.
