Music video helmer Director X, having remade blaxploitation classic “Superfly” in 2018, is turning his attention to a somewhat older tale.
Slashfilm reports that the helmer is teaming with “Orphan Black” writer Chris Roberts on the eight-episode action-drama series “Robyn Hood”. Both will co-showrun and executive produce with Director X helming several episodes.
The series is a reinvention of the classic “Robin Hood” tale but with a 21st century Gen Z woman in the lead and unfolding in modern times. The tale follows the fearless Robyn Loxley – a member of a masked hip-hop band called The Hood.
From the Sherwood Towers neighbourhood, a cluster of rental high-rises in a working-class corner of New Nottingham, Robyn takes a stand in a quest to fight injustice, hold the corrupt accountable, and uses others greed to help the community.
Boat Rocker Studios is producing the series which will shoot in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario. Casting for the series is said to kick off soon ahead of a premiere in 2023.
