Breaking out onto the scene with period horror “The Witch” that helped launch Anya Taylor-Joy’s career, filmmaker Robert Eggers followed that up with the darkly comedic Lovecraft-meets-Melville period thriller “The Lighthouse”.

His third feature, the Viking action film “The Northman,” released its trailer earlier this week ahead of its debut on April 22nd. Though there are months to go until then, Eggers revealed to Collider this week that “The Northman” is essentially finished with only one last VFX shot to complete.

As a result, he’s already begun work on his next directorial effort:

“When I’m in post, I’m always trying to find time to write the next thing. I’m going to be super guarded and secretive, but I hope to be going into production with something next year.”

Asked if it’s a project that has been rumored before, Eggers indicates it could well be but a lot of that depends on external factors:

“It could be the project that you’re ghosting around, or it could be something new. It just kind of depends on actor availability and all kinds of stuff.”

Eggers’ name has previously been linked to a remake of “Nosferatu,” which was to star Anya Taylor-Joy, though that film didn’t seem to get out of the development stage.
