Puerto Rican icon Rita Moreno (“West Side Story”) has been cast as the grandmother of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in the currently in production tenth “Fast and Furious” movie for Universal Pictures.
In the announcement video on Instagram, Diesel appears with Moreno to discuss her casting whilst a tired but very happy Michelle Rodriguez hovers in the back.
“Fast X” will flesh out more of Dom’s backstory and so we’ll likely see an expansion of the Toretto family that began with last year’s “F9” and Dom’s brother Jacob (John Cena).
The film is the first part of a two-movie story to reportedly end the franchise. Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson and Daniela Melchior also join the cast while Diesel, Rodriguez, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Charlize Theron, and Scott Eastwood all return from previous outings.
Louis Leterrier helms “Fast X” which hits cinemas on May 19th 2023.
