“Rings,” “Bebop” Series Resume Filming In NZ

Filming has reportedly just resumed in New Zealand on Amazon’s large scale “The Lord Of The Rings” TV series – an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel series set in the centuries long before the events of seen in both “The Hobbit” and ‘Rings’.

Deadline broke the news, also revealing that production on Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop,” the live-action adaptation of the cult Japanese animated series, is slated to restart on Wednesday, September 30 in the island country where Netflix’s “Sweet Tooth” has been shooting since September 14th.

The three are among handful of Hollywood TV series and movies granted border exemptions by the New Zealand government in July to film in the country. ‘Rings’ was nearly finished filming its first two episodes before a scheduled several month long break when the pandemic shut them down prematurely. As a result, they’ve been using the time to map out and write Season 2 scripts. Prep work for the show’s resumption of shooting has been underway for months.

Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop” froze production a little under a year ago after star John Cho was badly injured. Just as he finished recovering, the pandemic arrived which kept it all shut down until now.
