Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” Could Hit This Year?

Sony Pictures

Apple is reportedly considering releasing Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” biopic, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby, this December.

The Ankler broke the report, saying the tech giant is considering giving the slot it originally had reserved for the Antoine Fuqua-directed and Will Smith-led “Emancipation” to “Napoleon”.

Scott, in his usual highly efficient way, is seemingly well into post-production on the project despite shooting only beginning back in February and running through until May.

The story depicts Napoleon’s rise to power through the lens of his addictive and volatile relationship with Empress Josephine. Tahar Rahim and Youssef Kerkour co-star.

The potential move could shake up an awards race that is pegging Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical coming-of-age tale “The Fablemans” as the current front runner.

Update: Variety and Indiewire report that according to multiple sources within the streamer, the film will not drop during this current awards season. The Ankler is standing by its story.
