“Rick & Morty vs. Genocider” Short Film

Adult Swim’s highly popular “Rick & Morty” has embraced other’s takes on the material in the past with the network’s official site posting animated shorts which re-interpret the characters from a non-U.S. perspective.

We had 2018’s “Bushworld Adventures” and earlier this year came “Samurai & Shogun”. Today comes “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider,” an anime style eight-minute Japanese-language short directed by Takashi Sano (“Tower of God,” “Fire Emblem: Three Houses”).

In the piece, produced by Sola Entertainment and animated at Telecom Animation Film, the pair head to Tokyo in pursuit of the titular villain.

The short was shared as part of an event over the weekend where co-creator Justin Roiland revealed he was not a fan of the split-release of the fourth season rollout this year. Instead he’d prefer to release one a month and make it a “big event” but adds the decision was above his jurisdiction. He’s also not sure what the plan will be for future episodes.

The show’s fifth season has already been written and is in production now with work on the sixth season underway. Adult Swim large 70 episode order last year has effectively granted the series a ten season run should they stick to ten-episode seasons.

The series made other headlines over the weekend when Spencer Grammer, the actress who voices Summer , was injured trying to break up an altercation in New York City. Neither injuries were considered to be life-threatening.
