Rick and Michonne Series Wraps Filming

AMC

Ahead of the final run of “The Walking Dead” came the announcements of three new event series spin-offs centering on the fate of characters from that show.

The first, “Dead City,” would focus on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Manhattan. The second, “Daryl Dixon,” puts the focus on Norman Reedus’ character in France.

The third, and arguably the most anticipated, is one going by the working title “Summit”, which sees Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne finally reunite. The project initially started out as a film but was then turned into what’s being dubbed a “prestige miniseries”.

Today, the creative team behind the series shared a statement on Twitter confirming that filming on the Rick and Michonne series has wrapped and thanking the crew for their hard work across the whole franchise:

“Thank you for creating the next world of The Walking Dead with us. Your talent, energy, and enthusiasm through it all has been the thing that’s gotten us through it all, bringing home a story more than a decade in the telling! This story will live on and our work with it; we’re the ones who live!”

The series is dubbed a “romantic saga” as the former lovers seek out each other, and ultimately themselves, in this world of the undead. Both were last glimpsed briefly in the series finale – Michonne still searching whilst Rick seemingly fails an escape attempt from those mysterious people who took him after the bridge explosion several seasons ago.

Scott M. Gimple serves as showrunner with Gurira, Lincoln, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath executive producing. Gurira also is a writer and co-creator of the series.

“The Walking Dead: Dead City” premieres on June 18th. The Daryl Dixon spin-off, rumored to be titled “Raise The Dead,” wrapped filming a few weeks back, and there’s already talk of a second season to film shortly. The Rick and Michonne spin-off will premiere next year.
