MGM has pushed both the Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect” and the Alicia Vikander-led “Tomb Raider” sequel.
Jennifer Hudson plays the Queen of Soul in”Respect” which was originally set to debut on October 9th before being bumped to a limited Christmas Day release followed by a wide January 15th release. Now the film is getting completely out of the way of awards season for this year – moving off until August 13th next year.
The “Tomb Raider” follow-up has been pulled from the schedule altogether, though this makes sense. The film had been scheduled for March 19th 2021, but director Ben Wheatley won’t even begin filming it until early next year so don’t expect it until the Fall, or more likely sometime in 2022.
That’s not the only shift today. Paramount Animation and WWE Studios has pushed the animated feature “Rumble” from January 19th to May 14th next year. The project had already been delayed from an original Summer 2020 bow, so this move returns it to its original early summer box-office slot albeit a year later.
