“Resident Evil 4” Remake Gameplay Footage

Capcom

Game Informer magazine has been publishing a series of video stories about Capcom’s highly-anticipated full-blown remake of 2005’s “Resident Evil 4” in the past week, with the big one dropping today – offering over twelve minutes of new gameplay.

The “Resident Evil 4” remake, being handled by the same team who did the highly acclaimed remake of “Resident Evil 2,” aims to preserve the essence of the original game whilst at the same time “introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics”.

The clip offers extended looks at church and cemetery sequences, and a cabin battle with Luis Serra. It follows on from further information about the game emerging in recent weeks such as mechanics introduced in the RE2 & RE3 remakes like ammo powder mixing, quick weapon switching, new aiming reticle and six optional control schemes.

There’s also the addition of side quests which will see players come across flyers tasking them with completing objectives like delivering items or taking down creatures resulting in extra rewards from the merchant. One key change is apparently that knives will now eventually break though players can carry multiple.

Interestingly an earlier video from Game Informer touting this video series included footage from an outdoor sequence involving heavy rain. Kotaku reports that sequence has led to a ‘Raingate’ debate online over how distracting said rain is and drawing comparisons to the infamous rain of the derided GTA remasters. You can see and judge for yourself in the footage below but, outside of the rain, the remake’s footage has so far been very well-received.

The new “Resident Evil 4” will release on March 24th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PC via Steam. The game will also support PlayStation VR2.
