Asked if he will appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars” films, actor Jeremy Renner had a pretty definitive answer – “No.”
Renner said that while appearing on The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM to promote the latest season of “Mayor of Kingstown” this week, along with his recent memoir about his recovery from his 2023 snowplow accident.
Renner played Clint Barton/Hawkeye across four “Avengers” films and the “Hawkeye” TV series. He says he hasn’t closed the door on returning as the character.
Asked about reports that Marvel had reduced his salary for a potential second season of the series, part of an overall effort to cut costs on its Marvel shows, he said:
“Not because of a snowplow [incident]. No, it’s just, guys, if they want to do season two and they just offered half the amount to do season two, I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course, I’d love to do it. But it’s going to take a lot of physical work to get back into it. And also just the timing, because it would take a little bit more time for me to physically do the role. Maybe I just wasn’t ready last year. Maybe it’ll happen in a year or two to come, because I’m still in recovery right now. It will be for the rest of my life, but I’m just getting stronger every day.”
The “Avengers” question came up after that, to which he said “no” fairly straightforwardly. He was also asked about how Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror was booted from Marvel, to which he said he doesn’t know enough about the situation to know. He did add that: “I know they had big plans for that character. That’s for sure… due diligence, I think, really has to be played out.”
Earlier in the week, Renner expressed confidence that a second season of “Hawkeye” will happen, it’s a question of when more than anything.
