“Reminders of Him,” the film adaptation of “It Ends with Us” and “Regrettting You” author Colleen Hoover’s novel, looks set to debut in second at the box-office this weekend – overperforming expectations with an opening of around $19-20 million.
The film, starring Maika Monroe (“Longlegs”) and Tyriq Withers (“Him”), scored decidedly mixed reviews with a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences don’t seem that much more impressed with a ‘B’ CinemaScore.
Nonetheless, the film is making a better debut than expected and is skewing heavily female – 81%. Women over the age of 25 are the dominant force at 57%, while men under the age of 25 are avoiding it like the plague – just 4%.
Meanwhile, Pixar’s “Hoppers” is staying atop with the title on track for a $30 million second weekend – only a 34% decline from its debut last weekend.
Third place is going to A24 horror “Undertone” which is headed for a $10 million debut weekend. The film follows a paranormal podcaster who becomes haunted by ghostly recordings. Starring Nina Kiri and Adam DiMarco, it got decent critics reviews with 76% on Rotten Tomatoes but audience scores are dismal at 53% while it also snagged a pretty flat CinemaScore of ‘C’.
Fourth will go to “Scream 7″ with $7.5 million in its third weekend – a drop of around 56%, while fifth will be”Goat” with $5 million.
Last week’s newcomer “The Bride” meanwhile is not finding an audience. The film bombed on arrival with a haul of just over $7 million in its opening weekend, and now looks set to fall around 70% in its second go around – pulling in just $2.15 million.
